We be Gettin' Festive

Ah, Fall is here. Apple cider, coffee with my new favorite creamer, sweaters, scarves, coffee, skinny jeans, crisp mornings, coffee, season appropriate sleepwear. I.Love.Fall....and coffee.

If the rest of the year could stay like this week, that would be great. Minus the bugs, of course. I'm pretty sure this is, by far, my favorite time of year. I would totally throw up the Christmas tree the day after Halloween if my husband would go along with it...and I may just try it this year. There is just something about this season that brings a warmth of comfort to my soul. I start thinking about all the family gatherings we'll be attending, the stories to be shared, yummy food to be eaten, a 'cinnamon buns' scented candle crackling, watching the littles open presents and eat candy 'til their sick to their stomachs...okay, my littles won't be doing that just yet, but I can't wait for when they do. It all brings my heart to a flutter.

What better way to show off our love for the upcoming holidays than wearing them on our jambos.
Enter cuteness:
His cheeks are delicious, if you were wondering.
I mean, c'mon. Roman's hair. When without product it's like something out of 1974. It wants to split right down the middle and has potential to get like this. Not that I'd let it. Just sayin'. Every time we're out and about there's at least one person that lets me know of their approval of his hair. I love it.

And this is my new favorite coffee creamer. I wasn't gonna leave ya hanging. It's simply divine.
Mmmm, if it wasn't eleven o'clock in the evening I'd be drinking some. And seeing as though it's getting to be quite late, I'd better hit the sack. New goal: in bed by eleven, maybe even ten. I want to start getting up around six am to have my quiet time and time to focus for the day. Goal not achieved tonight. Later!

Totally rocked it

Well the weekend is gone. Another week is upon us and I have two sickies. Should be an interesting one.

Anyway.

Friday was a monumental day for me. I have been dying to get the boys Fall/Winter clothing and decided I wanted to go to BabyGap at Jordan Creek to see what was on sale. Originally I didn't want to do this alone because the thought of a potential toddler tantrum and infant drama in a very public setting haunted me. Jeff was unable to come because of the timing, which was a huge disappointment, but in the end I got up the courage and went anyway.

Roman was in a goofy mood and didn't nap at all. We tried putting him down twice but he had other plans. Plans which consisted of jumping in his crib and screaming and cracking himself up. Viggo wasn't napping when I had thought he might and so instead of wasting the rest of Friday afternoon I packed up the kids and trucked it solo to Des Moines.

The drive down was heavenly. Both Roman and Viggo napped in the car. When we got to the mall I squished V in the sling (in which he slept the entire time Roman and I shopped) and strapped Roman in the stroller (which took me about 20 minutes to get all things situated) and headed in. I could feel eyes watching me. Was I really THAT mom? The mom who appears to have it all together and as though having a toddler and an infant was a breeze? It may have looked like it, but to those who have known me theses last couple months, it's all an illusion. For a moment, though, I was drinking it in. Pretend is fun, and totally necessary at times.

My plan of action was: MOVE FAST. Get in and get out. Looking back I wonder what kind of expression I had on my face. Was it obvious I was on a mission? Probably. But I was, so it would have been a suitable look to sport.

When we entered Baby Gap (extra 40% off sale items!), Viggo started to fuss a bit and I was as calm as could be began to wig out a little. 'Oh crap! Pleeeeease go back to sleep!' And he did so it was a success! Roman scored big. He will soon be showcasing his new skinny jeans and straight legged jeans. He also got a couple waffle knit shirts, a belt and a hoodie. Now all he needs are these shoes and he will be one rad dude. Viggo will also be modeling his new jeans, plus a couple new shirts. I love fall clothes. Now all I need to do is get Jeff and I some season appropriate attire and we'll be good to go.

After Baby Gap, I went to JCrew to see what they had on sale. I scored on a great necklace and a new scarf. Not clothes, I know, but their stuff wasn't on sale enough for me to buy. Plus I had just dropped a good amount on my kids, so I can wait til next month, right?

At this point, Viggo began to stir a bit, so we headed up to the food court, nabbed some fries for Rome to munch on while I fed V, and decided to pack up. Definitely was not going to push my luck! I wasn't going to call it a successful venture until we got home because what if the car ride back was miserable?! But it wasn't, so I rocked it. I did the baby-wearing stroller-pushing mama thing solo and it was awesome. It was just the encouragement I needed to believe I can do this two-children-under-two thing.

Saturday my SIL and her family came to Ames for the UNI/ISU game. We didn't take the boys 'cause I'm a fair weather friend and it was cold and rainy and they had runny noses. So we just chilled Saturday until church. After church we came home and chilled some more. I did, however, discover that Viggo does NOT like dairy. I had a frosty from Wendy's and it did not sit well with him at all. Poor little guy. I even called first nurse because I had such an uneasy feeling from his reaction to it. He's fine now, but I won't be consuming dairy anytime soon, that's for sure.

Yesterday was pretty busy. My sweet, amazing, delicious husband let this lady sleep in w/ the babe until after 9 both mornings. Um, hello? Heaven on earth, I tell ya. And yesterday afternoon I took my V-Bug and cute 9th grade sister back to DSM to find a Homecoming dress. After about three long hours we finally found one she liked, in her size. The girls biggest problem is that she's a size one. Dude.

Now, this talking about Homecoming got me thinking about my freshman year Homecoming dance. I wore a denim skirt, a really weird top, and some boots. And not the kind of boots that you'd think would work with said outfit. APPARENTLY it is now a more formal event and everyone wears something that looks like the mini skirt version of a prom dress. So not only were we trying to find a size one dress, but a size one dress that didn't look like it should be a tunic top. In the end, she got a really cute black dress with some bedazzling bling on the front. It's pretty cute and she looks fabulous in it.

When we got back into town we stopped at Target to get a new crib mattress and monitor for Roman. Leah needed theirs back to prepare for their little due in December. While there, V and I had to make a pit stop to the fitting rooms for dinner and a bowel movement. :)  We scurried ourselves back to the car for a diaper change and a long awaited reunion with my sweet Roman. Came home, ate some dinner (allergy friendly meatloaf, baked potatoes, corn and spinach salad) and put the kids to bed. A good but fast weekend.

Happy week!

A Gentleman's List

I got this idea from a good friend. Her sister has three scrumptious boys and has one of these lists, and I figured since I now have two equally (if not more...but I'm biased) scrumptious boys it would only make sense if I copied her. :) This is just such a genius idea!

It's a list of all the things true gentlemen do/act like. Some serious, some for fun. I'm really excited about starting this list, but I have an extreme case of new-mama-to-two-scrumptious-boys brain, so I thought I'd outsource some ideas. I would LOVE it if you would leave a comment or two or three about how you think a gentleman should act in all areas of his life. :)

Speaking of gentlemen.

Life is grand.
