We've been busy

Since Father's Day, it seem's like I've been running around like a chicken with it's head cut off. My delicious niece was born, I've been trying to figure out what we all need still before Baby comes (which is only about four weeks away), my In-Laws house is a disaster because they are starting the remodeling process, and when I mean remodeling I mean they are going allllllll out! New hardwood floors, so the carpet has been ripped up, new granite counter tops, which means we have no counter space because there are no counters to speak of, new texture for the ceilings, which means the pop corn texture is being scraped off of it, new appliances, so we have a microwave to use for all our cooking needs -stove is gone-, etc. It's going to look amazing when it's finished, however, I think Little Sweets will be here before everything is back to normal, which stands for: I can't nest. :) There's just no room! July is going to be crazy. I wonder if the stress of everything will induce labor early for me, which, if he wanted to come around 38 weeks, like his brother, I don't think I'd be too disappointed. As long as we're all healthy! Plus we're going to be moving back into our little house at the end of the month -and need to do some re-vamping there too. We intend to keep in on the market, but feel that it's just harder to sell with someone else living in it. Cross your fingers, and if you know anyone who wants to buy an adorable two bedroom home with a mortgage that would be less than $600 a month, send them our way!

In addition to all of that (see above), I wanted to plan a little gathering to celebrate Baby's upcoming arrival. No, not a baby shower, just a party where there's good food and great friends. I like to procrastinate, so I didn't really plan anything until the week of the party, which was last Saturday. I'm discovering that it's not a good thing for me to wait until the last minute. I may become a bear. Add pregnancy hormones and a chaotic home and wha-la.

The party went well, though! We had green hydrangea and blue carnations, and some adorable little faux bird nests with jelly beans (eggs) in them as favors. On the menu: very cherry almond  and Sunday morning muffins as well as a delicious bowl of mixed fruit. To drink we had coffee, orange juice and lemon water. The muffins turned out great! I used vegan butter and our egg replacer to make them Roman friendly. Thank you to everyone who took the time to come! We felt very loved!! And a gigantic thank you to my sweet friend Laura for opening her home and allowing me to have it there. xo, Lady!

Later Saturday evening we had a last 'family of three' photo shoot with our dear friends Danny & Jessie Vasquez. Danny is such an amazing talent! We are so blessed to call them friends and the photos turned out amazing! More on those later.

In the midst of last minute party planning, my best friend, Erika, whom I haven't seen in almost a year, came to visit for her cousins wedding. So Friday mid-morning we got our babies together and let them play their tiny hearts out in the sprinkler while we caught some sun. There's no 'catching up' with us because though she lives in Dallas, we talk so often it's as if we're next door neighbors. Someday we WILL be. Her precious daughter, Caillet, and Roman just love each other. Caillet is a forward woman. She loves giving kisses!

isn't she delicious!

both are willing participants

Roman doesn't want to over step his boundaries or take advantage, but she's very persistent...

and one more for the road

So that was last week. This week I've been instructed by Jeff to make no plans and to take it easy. This would probably be a lot easier if we weren't expecting a baby in a month. :) I plan on keeping my week open, though, and if anyone wants to go to the park or pool or anywhere not the house I'm living in, and enjoy the sunshine we're supposed to have this week, I'm all for that!  For now, I need a nap, and to finish laundry, and meal plan...

I'm In Love

Sigh. I am in love with the most beautiful baby girl I've ever seen! My brother, Thad and his wife, Brittney, had their baby on Sunday. Father's Day of all days, and it was Brittney's birthday. What a gift! Here are her stats and photos.

Sophia Tara Bohn
Seven pounds, Two ounces
Twenty Inches Long

Can you hardly stand it?  She looks just like her mama, and that HAIR! Oh my goodness. I was hoping Roman would have hair like that, maybe his brother will. :)

As for this amazing man?
I can't get enough of him either. He is so amazing. He works so hard for us so I can stay home with our soon to be two boys. Going to bed at 9pm so he can get up at 4am to start his day. Then he works all day in between boot camps and his day doesn't end until after 6:30pm. He loves his boys with all that's in him and he is the most incredible dad. We are blessed to call him ours! Love you Jeff!

Good News

As I was rocking Roman to sleep tonight, I started to reflect on today and have come to the conclusion that it has been one of the most fantastic days I've had in a long time.

It all started yesterday when I randomly looked up waffle makers on Craigslist. Wednesday nights have had a reoccurring theme as 'breakfast for dinner.' I remember as a kid how much of a treat it was to get pancakes or waffles for dinner and don't see anything wrong with making it a regular in my home. It's a nice break from all the gourmet dinners I cook the rest of the week. Back to the topic at hand. I found one that was posted several weeks ago for ten bucks. Right then and there it pretty much had me if it was still available. I emailed the guy and he dropped the price to five dollars. Okay, seriously? I didn't even have to negotiate! This is what we got:

I went ant picked it up today and it's perfect! Only used one time, a Black and Decker, and retails for $24.99. I got a steal. It's hilarious, really, how smitten I am with our five dollar practically brand new waffle maker. Oh the things that you get all excited about when you get older and responsible. We used it tonight, though it's Thursday, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with it! Works fantastic.

The next thing I thought about was how much fun it is to take Roman to the High School for 'swim lessons'. It's more or less just swimming with him, but we both love it and I feel like we had a productive morning and I'm being a 'good mama'. Plus being eight months pregnant its nice to be more buoyant and not feel the 35 or so pounds I've put on. And Roman is just exhausted afterwards! Thirty minutes in the water and he's about passed out on the three minute drive home. Needless to say he's been taking extra long naps which is fine by me. We have four more classes next week and then we're done. It's been a good time. I would have pictures of it but that would be tricky to be the one behind the camera and in the water at the same time.

My mind then trailed off to when Roman went down for his nap this afternoon. I chatted it up with a great friend I haven't talked to in a while and an hour and twenty three minutes of talking cloth diapers amongst other baby and random things, I find out she's expecting their first! GAH! So dang excited. I can't say who it is because they haven't even told their parents yet. I am so excited for them to experience parenthood. It's just by far the greatest thing ever. And then I started to think about how many people I know (closely) who are expecting. Seven. Eight if I throw myself in there. SHEESH! Something's in the water!

Not even a couple hours after that my best friend, Erika, who lives in Texas and I haven't seen since Roman and I went last August, texts me saying she and her daughter get to come to town next week! Originally they weren't coming until mid-August. My heart is all a flutter just thinking about it.

After I place my peacefully slumbering baby in his bed I walk out of the hallway and Jeff tells me another friend of ours is expecting a baby! Make that number of expecting mamas nine. Plus my sister in law is a week overdue, so shortly (next week at most) we'll be welcoming Baby Girl Bohn into our love nest. I cannot wait to meet my her!

at the library, killing some time while Jeff's working.

I am just smitten with today. All good things happened. The Lord blessed us today, for whatever reason, but He is to get the glory for it. So thank you, Lord, for such a wonderful day learning of new life you've been creating and good friends you're bringing together. Oh, and for my new waffle maker.

Summer Lovin'

Does it get any better than this?

I don't think so. :)

I bought this huge pool last week at Target on sale. I figure it will come in handy on the days we don't really want to go to the pool, but we want to be in a pool. Plus, bonus, we plan on having many pool party play dates. I busted it out yesterday afternoon and it took for.e.ver to inflate. It was after two pm when I put some hose water in it. I knew it would be freezing so I tried adding hot tap water. Fyi, that didn't do anything. Jeff put Roman in it and after gasping for breath because it was so cold, we were good to go. I don't know what it is, but the kid played in it like it was a warm bath. Until he fell face first in it. Oops. Good thing Jeffrey was in it with him. But can you see he's not sitting down all the way like my little is?

It was such cold water that Jeff needed to sit on Roman's lawn chair. ;) Love that man. Needless to say, we decided against hypothermia and only spent maybe 20 minutes in the water, but we are excited to start getting some good use out of it!

Before our fun afternoon 20 minutes in the pool, Roman and I had a busy morning. We headed down to Ankeny in hopes of finding a modest as possible two piece swim suit to accommodate Sweets growing in my belly. Super Target typically has far better selection than the one here in town so I was sure I was going to find one. I was wrong and disappointed. Kohl's failed, too. As did TJ Maxx. I even tried Younkers here in Ames but I guess if you don't get your suit in March, too bad for you. The one thing I did find was fabric for my homemade cloth wipes. More on those later.

This boy has my heart.

When we got back to Ames I tried our Target again. My problem is finding the size I need. I found one I thought would be modest enough, tried it on in the store at home and failed yet again! A return trip is in order, and I think I'm beginning to know the employees on a first name basis.

So, does anyone know where I can find a cute retro-y (I'm really liking the bandeau tops, but might have to settle for a halter top) two piece? And really, I just need the top.

In other short news, last Saturday I went to Des Moines for a little girl time with my sister-in-law (who is due with their baby today, I might add) and my sweet friend CaitlinWe pretty much just shopped for the littles, but it was a good refreshing time. Plus I got Roman a pair of super duper cute underwear from Gymboree.

Loving the fat roll

Oh, and hey, I'm 33 weeks pregnant! I cannot believe (and some days can) that we only have 6-ish weeks until our tiniest little makes his debut! We are excited and somewhat anxious about the unknown of have two babes under two. It will surely be an adjustment, but a welcomed one at that. There is still so much to do/get ready before he comes. I bought a cradle at Duck Worth Wearing and Jeff painted it white. Now all it needs is some bedding and a baby to go in it and we'll be set. I figure it will serve well as a crib of sorts for the first few months, since an actual crib would take up too much space for our current living conditions. I'm really excited about the it! Other things on my list are: this double stroller, and some summery little outfits and I think we'll be able to get buy with what we have, although, I could spend a few endless dollars on Etsy. They have, hands down, the most adorable stuff for babies. It's ridiculous.

Okay, time to go. Sweet Roman had too long of a morning and decided to wake up early from his nap cranky.

Catching Up

Dance Dance.

We'll start with a dance party. One night last week, the three of us decided after dinner to have a pre-bedtime boogie. It was fabulous. The joy Roman had out of wiggling that delicious little body of his, a leg kick here, some air-punches there, seriously, pure delight.

That's right, I'm workin' it.

Sprinkler.

We've been playing in our 'neeeek!' sprinkler a lot lately. That's 'snake' for those of you who don't yet speak Rome-ish.

It's pretty much requested everyday that we head out to the yard and play in the water. Too bad it's been just cool enough outside this week to not play in freezing cold hose water. :( Hopefully it warms up again, past 80, soon. We want sunshine and hot weather, please!

 Memorial Day.

My mom had a fantastic get together of family and delicious food Saturday! Roman hung out in the swing and played with Uncle Poo and Aunt Brittney and trotted around the back yard like he owned the place. It's too cute how whenever my brother walked by, Roman feelt the need to say 'poo' under his breath. We dined one hot dogs, chips and applesauce. Boring, but somehow it never gets old.

Croup.

Ugh. It has invaded my baby's body yet again. Last Friday I woke up around 11pm upon hearing the struggled sounds of breathing through the monitor. We sat in a steamy bathroom and took a drive. When that didn't worked we headed to the hospital where Roman got a shot to calm down the inflammation. It was about two in the morning when we arrived back at home, and did we all go right to sleep? Nope. Nemo was calling our name. So we watched half of it before the three of us snuggled into bed to be graced with about four hours of sleep.

Saturday we took it easy. Went for a walk around the lake and watched more movies...well, okay, watched more Nemo. Sunday Roman was feeling better, but we still laid fairly low. Then Monday rolls around and my sweets woke up fussy with a fever and just wanted to lay around and snuggle. Snuggles always welcome, but this was completely out of the ordinary for him. Usually he's rip, roaring ready to go! Broke my heart to see him like this.

What do you do when you want almond milk and orange juice? You have both, of course!

Tuesday brought a healthier little and we went grocery shopping and met Jeff for other errands around town. I'm not sure why it's happening that every other day he sports a fever and extra snuggles, but those are our cards, so today we visited the chiropractor, shopped at target and came home. We played blocks, read books, and watched our favorite movie. My poor little love. I hate seeing him not feel well. Here's hoping tomorrow is better. For now I'm praying for a quiet night for all of us.
